About the Erskine Fire
The Erskine Fire started at approximately 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. At this point, the cause of the fire either has not been determined or it has not been released to the public. The fire is burning in the Lake Isabella area of Kern County. Lake Isabella is approximately 40 miles outside of Bakersfield. As of the morning of Friday, June 24, the fire has grown to an estimated 8,000 acres and it is 0% contained by firefighters. 350 firefighters are on the scene with many more on the way. 100 structures have already been lost and another 1,500 are being threatened.

- South Fork
- Weldon
- Onyx
- Lakeland Estates
- Mountain Mesa
- South Lake
- Squirrel Valley
- Yankee Canyon
Highway 178 at Highway 155 and Sierra Way has been closed. To make matters potentially worse, the forecast calls for more hot, dry and windy conditions for the next day or two. The weather, when combined with the terrain that’s filled with trees and brush, could lead to a very dangerous situation in which the Erskine Fire could grow quickly. The Erskine Fire continues to spin and grow out of control. According to this report from KTLA, the fire has now grown to more than 19,000 acres and destroyed approximately 80 homes.
