Max Halpern is a trial attorney who dedicates his practice to helping people.
Mr. Halpern focuses his practice on representing plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury, products liability, and wrongful death cases. Since joining Gomez Trial Attorneys, Mr. Halpern has successfully recovered millions of dollars for his clients in lawsuits against those responsible.
In February 2016, alongside John Gomez, Mr. Halpern was a member of the trial team in Cheng v. On The Border, representing Kai-Yen Cheng who was severely injured when a drunk driving employee of On The Border restaurant crashed his car into Mr. Cheng. At trial, the jury found On The Border liable for its employee’s negligent drinking at the restaurant, and returned a verdict for the plaintiff of $1.54 million dollars.
Gomez Trial Attorneys utilizes Mr. Halpern’s legal research and motion writing on other high profile cases. Mr. Halpern has won legal arguments in court to obtain company documents the defense refuses to turn over, exclude from trial prejudicial evidence against our client, and oppose motions for summary judgment and non-suit.
Prior to joining Gomez Trial Attorneys, Mr. Halpern clerked for the California Attorney General and the Oceanside City Attorney. As a law student, Mr. Halpern wrote for the San Diego Law Review, advocating for protection of the Voting Rights Act. Mr. Halpern additionally worked as a Research Assistant for Orly Lobel and received the CALI award in Advanced Civil Litigation.
Mr. Halpern is a member of the State Bar of California. Mr. Halpern received his law degree from the University of San Diego, cum laude, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from UC San Diego. Outside of his law practice, Mr. Halpern enjoys going to the beach, playing basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
