HERB-OX® Bouillon Products Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

HerbOx ChickenMarch 5, 2010 – Creative Contract Packaging Corporation of Aurora, Illinois, is recalling specific code dates of HERB-OX® beef, vegetable, and chicken granular bouillon products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

This action is being taken after Basic Food Flavors, Inc., of Las Vegas, NV, issued a recall for all hydrolyzed vegetable protein (“HVP”) dry powder manufactured by Basic Food Flavors on or after September 17, 2009, due to a positive test result for Salmonella in a production lot. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea (sometimes bloody).  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
