Debbie Stiesmeyer
Client Advocate & InvestigatorDebbie Stiesmeyer is a Client Advocate and Case Investigator for Gomez Trial Attorneys.
In this unique hybrid role, Debbie provides crucial support to both clients and the legal team by combining her investigative background with trauma-informed, client-centered advocacy. She works closely with each client from intake through the duration of their case—whether it resolves in settlement or proceeds to trial. Debbie assists with case investigations and evidence review, while also guiding clients through the emotional and procedural challenges of litigation. Her work includes interviewing clients and witnesses, reviewing reports and documentation, supporting attorneys with case development, coordinating resources, and ensuring every client feels informed, supported, and empowered throughout their legal journey.
After moving to San Diego in 2013, Debbie began her public safety career as a dispatcher—an experience that exposed her to crisis situations, inspired her to enter the law enforcement academy, and strengthened her desire to help people on their hardest days. Upon graduating from the academy, she worked at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility (the female jail), before transitioning to patrol in the Lemon Grove area. During her time in Lemon Grove, Debbie served as both a Training Officer and Corporal, roles that demonstrated her ability to teach, mentor, and lead fellow deputies. She later advanced into investigations, serving as a Detective in Poway, where she further developed her skills in fact-finding, interviewing, and supporting community members through sensitive and challenging situations.
After leaving the Sheriff’s Department—and while navigating her own litigation as a plaintiff—Debbie joined the Coronado Police Department to return to the career she deeply loved. Her time at Coronado reinforced her commitment to public service, strengthened her investigative instincts, and reaffirmed her desire to support people through life’s most difficult moments.
Debbie’s connection to Gomez Trial Attorneys is deeply personal. As a former plaintiff represented by GTA in her own sexual-harassment case, she experienced firsthand the impact of compassionate, skilled advocacy. Successfully resolving her case ignited her passion for helping others navigate difficult legal processes. Now a credentialed Survivor Advocate, she brings a rare blend of lived experience, trauma-informed training, and investigative skill to every case she supports. Debbie is committed to ensuring that each client feels seen, heard, and guided with dignity throughout their legal journey.
Debbie holds an Advanced California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in Spanish, along with specialized training in trauma-informed practices. Outside of work, Debbie enjoys yoga, Pilates, fitness, and home design projects. She values time spent with her significant other, her family and close circle of friends. She is grateful to work with a progressive firm that recognizes the importance of both professional expertise and lived experience in client-centered advocacy.
