Motorists often have a difficult time in Orange County traffic when they are traveling north or south. There are not many options for these directions. As a result, roads such as Interstate 5 are often jammed with vehicles. Clearly, traffic congestion in the area leads to a large number of Orange County car accidents. Hopefully that will begin to change this weekend when the La Pata Gap Connector opens to the public after years in the making. This new route will provide motorists with an alternative to Interstate 5 and perhaps alleviate some of the congestion. It is also hoped that this new route will bring down the risk level related to Orange County accidents. Below is a brief overview of the project and the ceremony that will take place to commemorate the opening of this pathway.
The La Pata Gap Connector is designed to improve mobility for motorists in South Orange County. The project began with its construction phase more than two years ago. The first phase of the project, which is the Gap Connector, is now complete. Motorists will now get to use four new traffic lanes. These lanes extend the existing La Pata Avenue from just south of Vista Montana to Calle Saluda. The next phase of the project begins immediately. Construction crews will widen La Pata Avenue by one lane in each direction from Ortega Highway to just south of Vista Montana. Finally, Camino Del Rio will be extended into La Pata Avenue. The project is expected to benefit communities such as San Clemente, Ladera Ranch, San Juan Capistrano and just about everywhere else nearby.
Everyone who lives with Orange County traffic in some manner will certainly be excited with this new road and driving option. On Saturday, August 13, a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. The event will run until 2 p.m. There will be a car show, vendor booths, food trucks for those who get hungry, free giveaways, live entertainment and general family fun to be had by all who attend. Attendees can park at San Juan Hills High School and take a shuttle to the event. A full breakdown of the day can be found here.
The Orange County personal injury lawyers at The Gomez Law Firm are happy to help publicize this event. We are also hopeful that this new driving option will alleviate some of the Orange County traffic problems and perhaps bring down the number of crashes that occur. In 2015 alone, 256 San Clemente car accidents took place, leading to 354 injuries and/or fatalities. Nearly two-thirds of those accidents occurred on a state highway.
