We recently tried to contribute to the effort being made by several groups, individuals and agencies to alert the public of a massive listeria recall. That recall focused on an enormous number of frozen food brands sold across the United States. Unfortunately, yet another listeria recall has been announced recently, and this one concerns walnuts. Anyone who eats walnuts needs to make sure that the products that they have in their homes have not been affected by this announcement, as listeria is a dangerous bacteria that can cause serious health problems if it is allowed to invade a person’s body.
This listeria recall is not as large as the one previously publicized, but it still affects a large number of containers of walnuts that are sold under several different brand names. United Natural Trading LLC has announced the recall, as the company produced the pre-packaged products at issue. These walnuts are sold at retailers under brand names that include:
The walnuts were originally purchased from Gibson Farms. Fortunately, this listeria recall is seen as a precautionary measure because as of now, no one has yet become ill as a result of eating these walnuts. The recall was initiated after a single sample of walnuts produced a positive result for listeria monocytogenes. Hopefully that remains the case, but consumers need to take heed and make sure that they are not exposing themselves or their children to these harmful bacteria. The FDA has put out an announcement regarding the listeria recall, and all of the details relating to it can be found at this link.
Listeria is a genus of bacteria that contains 10 different species. If someone consumes food that is contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, that person could be at risk of contracting a condition known as listeriosis. Listeriosis especially affects people whose immune systems are weakened for some reason, and in fact the condition can be fatal for those who are especially compromised. Pregnant women tend to suffer from nonspecific symptoms, which is especially concerning because listeriosis can be fatal for a fetus. For those people who are not pregnant, common symptoms of listeriosis include:
If you have consumed any of the walnuts in question and you’re concerned about how you’re feeling in any way, seek immediate medical attention.
If you have been harmed as a result of consuming food contaminated with these bacteria, you need to take action to stand up for your legal rights. Large corporations are going to do what they can to aggressively defend themselves, so you need to obtain legal representation that will help you hold those responsible for your harm accountable. The defective products attorneys at Gomez Trial Attorneys understand what it takes to enforce the rights of consumers.
